Skills Shift: Information to Interpersonal

Early signals suggest AI agent integration is reshaping which human skills matter most.

When comparing skill rankings by average wage (proxy for current economic value) versus required human agency (proxy for AI-era importance):

Declining emphasis:

  • Analyzing data or information
  • Updating and using relevant knowledge
  • Documenting/recording information

Increasing emphasis:

  • Organizing, planning, and prioritizing work
  • Training and teaching others
  • Communicating with supervisors, peers, or subordinates
  • Assisting and caring for others

The pattern: traditionally high-wage information-processing skills are becoming less emphasized, while interpersonal and organizational skills are gaining importance. Additionally, there’s a trend toward requiring broader skill sets from individuals.
