Chunk Integration Is Critical for Graph RAG

Knowledge graphs built purely from entities and relationships perform poorly for RAG (15-20% accuracy in one study. The same graphs with textual chunks integrated into nodes jumped to 90% accuracy.

The symbolic structure provides navigability. The chunks provide the actual content the LLM needs to generate accurate responses. You need both.

This suggests that the value of graph-based RAG isn’t replacing text with structure, it’s organizing text with structure.
